In Greek speak recruitment is known as rush. So when we talk about rushing we are talking about the process of learning about the fraternity. When you rush a house (fraternity) or multiple houses, you are not making a commitment to join the fraternity, but instead you are educating yourself. No commitment is made until you are extended and then accept an invitaiton to join, that invitation is known as a bid.
